Announcement: Hello all, we acknowledge that there were a few problems with the Arduin Eternal release. We dont think they were all too serious or uncorrectabble. We will continue to post all errata on the website as free downloads. If you dont have access to printing just send us an email and we will glady print it up for you and send it out to you.

We have decided to relay out the Arduin Eternal book to fix some of the problems. We dont want to be perceived as a General Motors or Chrysler for sending out a product that needs to be fully tested by the consumer, this is why we want to make a rather special offer once the book is relayed out. Please keep in mind that we are just a small company attempting to keep Arduin alive and we decided that putting the book out as is was the best choice.

Once the book is relayed out (we are in the middle of it), we will offer a special price for the updated copy of Arduin Eternal for anyone that has ordered the first print run from us or any authorized reseller. More details to follow on this as we get near completion of the redo. This offer will be valid for anyone that is also purchasing the current edition as we will continue to sell the current edition until either stock levels are wiped out or the redo of the book comes out. I expect this offer to be about $35 which will include shipping. The company will take a bit of a bath on this but we want to show you that we want you to have the best version humanly possible at this time and dont want anyone to feel jilted.

The index for the current version is currently being compiled and will be available for free online. The redo version once completed will hopefully have an index, if it doesnt have an index this will have been due to space constraints and will be put into the "Culture" book for the newer version. The Culture book will be included free with all orders that are made directly and only on our web site. This will include all past non-store orders. In addition the Culture book will be available for sale as well through the usual places to buy including our site.

We are making the relaying out of the book our TOP priority and ALL other projects have been put on-hold until this happens. As far as the Bestiary and the Culture book, we consider this to be part of the same project and they will hopefully follow very quickly after the rulebook is redone.

Thank you

Arduin Eternal errata section updated.

December 19, 2009

All in house orders less store orders have officially shipped as of today for Arduin Eternal and anything else ordered. Still reference the play tester version of the book: it is still at the printer and will NOT ship until January 2010 as they simply are not that far along in the printing queue. Our best guess for shipping on the play tester version of AE from Emperors Choice is January 15, 2010.

December 18, 2009

Another shipment of books has arrived. We will be sending out all in house orders less store orders tomorrow for the Arduin Eternal book and anything else that was ordered with it. The play tester version of the book is still at the printer and will NOT ship until January 2010 as they simply are not that far along in the printing queue.

As a short answer to some questions, I wanted to post a bit on EPS.  I drafted an email earlier today as a response to some questions about giving out EPS.  Its presented below.  I also wanted to provide this short bit on EPS I posted around a year ago to the play testers.  I hope it will provide some greater clarity.  Click here  to jump to the other EPS discussion.

Giving more than 1 EPS per game session is discouraged. It can be done but only if the GM desires to accelerate characters in the game. The old equivalent of giving out experience awards based on individual action doesn't exist the same way in AE. Instead, a GM should give a skill advancement bonus, advancement bonus for the developmental aspect or save, give a social motif, or other in-game benefit.

An EPS award in the past would be given for smart playing, doing something inspired, or innovative/creative. A GM can still do so but I'd suggest providing bonuses as mentioned above instead.

Example: A character has a wonderful session where their role play is on the side of brilliant. Time and time again they "save" the party by employing their character's skills and abilities, a quick wit and witty repartee. First its when he outwitted the medusa, using a mix of charm and smarts (and skills, of course!) entrancing her with a strong Perform roll and not a little bit of player wit too! Next was when they came to town hauling in the medusa's loot, and a wagon full of statues. Swarmed by the town folk, the part stood on the edge of engaging them and harming some yet not desiring of giving them what they wanted, which was the loot they worked hard to liberate from the medusa. This is where the characters shines, and in a quick thinking dash of rapid fire dialogue (not too mention a few good rolls and a lucky string of critical successes), the character sways the townspeople to the party's side.

At the end of the night, the player has done well. A GM could give the player another EPS but it would be more appropriate to give them a one or more single use developmental advancement bonus for the skills employed. Better yet, the GM could give a massive bonus towards earning a social motif, such as Famous or even give them the social motif if the game play was good enough and appropriate. Even a permanent (suggest small) bonus or even a critical success bonus. Each of these types of rewards is more inline with the idea of game play than providing more EPS.
